Travel Arrangements & Honeymoon Registry, Featured on Bay
Area Wedding Guide

Prefer Tahiti to a toaster? Many wedding couples are foregoing
the traditional bridal registry today. For those that already live
together and have furnished their nest or for those marrying for
a second time there is simply no need for linens, wineglasses or
fine china. These couples have become very creative in establishing
unique registries for everything from stock and bond funds to registries
for a down payment on a home.
The most popular of these new options is the Honeymoon Registry, which
allows a wedding couple’s friends and family to contribute to the
cost of their honeymoon. Your guests will love the idea of participating
in making your honeymoon the most memorable trip of you lifetime.
They will also appreciate the simplicity in using such a service .
. . no drive to the mall, no gift wrapping and certainly no gift to
return.
If a Honeymoon Registry appeals to you, do some research online. Keep
in mind that if you select a registry service, it is likely that they
will not personally assist you with your travel plans. They will refer
you to a travel agent they have “partnered with”. They may not know
the person (or level of experience) that you will be connected to
for assistance with your reservations. You may find it preferable
to first locate a reputable travel agent offering such a service.
Ask friends for a referral. You want a professional who understands
your travel needs to plan your important honeymoon.
Take a careful look at the registry fees that are being charged. If
a hefty percent of the gift amount is deducted for registry administration,
then this will greatly reduce the total contribution you will receive.
Also make sure the service you select will supply you with timely
lists of the names and addresses of the gift givers to enable you
to promptly send out thank you notes.
Make your travel plans well in advance of your departure date. Have
all arrangements confirmed prior to advising your guests of your registry.
Now you must get the word out. The most common way is to distribute
printed cards explaining how the registry works; these will be supplied
by the registry service you use. You may also spread the word by creating
a wedding web site, a newsletter or by word of mouth.
Do you like the idea of the Honeymoon Registry, but you still need
some household items? Set up a traditional bridal registry at your
favorite store in addition to a Honeymoon Registry. It is perfectly
acceptable to have both and give your guests an option. Another fun
idea . . . open a honeymoon registry for a bridal shower. If you plan
to honeymoon in Italy this is a perfect theme for a pizza or pasta
luncheon shower and all your gifts will be $$$ toward your trip!
If the traditional bridal registry is not for you, use your imagination.
The possibilities are endless and a Honeymoon Registry is a new winner.
