How to Begin Planning your Honeymoon, Featured on Bay
Area Wedding Guide
by Carol O'Connor of TravelBride
Just as “it takes two to tango”, today it takes two to plan a perfect
honeymoon. What used to be the groom’s responsibility is now a joint
venture. This can be a fun and stress-free process for you
as a couple provided you communicate with each other, plan ahead,
establish a budget and contact a reputable travel agent.
A honeymoon will likely be the most important trip the two of you
will ever have together and it must have the right ingredients to
please you both. Discuss your desires. Do you want a relaxing
beach vacation or an active adventure? Perhaps you would like a combination
of both. Consider a cruise or an all-inclusive resort or maybe an
African safari. Do you share a common interest such a biking, golfing
or diving? What are your romantic fantasies? Bill had planned a sunset
sail for the last night of his honeymoon. Annie, his future bride,
was afraid to tell him that she is prone to seasickness. When she
finally admitted her uneasiness about being on a boat, he happily
revised the plan and together they shared a moonlight couples massage.
It was the most romantic, memorable event of their lives! Compromise
and clear communication truly can produce happy results.
Planning ahead will allow you the time not only to research destinations,
but also time to obtain any necessary passports, visas or vaccinations.
Six months is optimal. Often a couple can receive “early booking discounts”
when making reservations far enough in advance... especially with
the cruise lines.
Establish a budget. Keep in mind that you can save a lot of money by using
frequent flier miles for your airline tickets and by traveling to
a destination during its “off-peak” season when rates are lower. Do
some research online to get an idea of costs. If you decide you need
financial assistance to purchase the honeymoon of your dreams, you
may wish to set up a Honeymoon Registry which will allow your guests
to contribute toward the cost of your trip.
Finally, use the services of a travel agent. You can do some research on
your own in the beginning, but the Internet doesn’t always provide
advice that can be critical to the success of your trip. The services
provided by a travel professional can be invaluable when it comes
to planning such an important vacation. Their first-hand experiences,
worldwide contacts, knowledge of special offers and their abilities
to “package” your trip are all well worth the nominal fees they may
charge. If something in your travel plans should go awry, you won’t
be able to call the Internet for help.
In summary, do your homework together and find a travel agent that you feel comfortable
working with. Now you can go back to planning your wedding, knowing
your honeymoon will be everything you have ever imagined. |
